Shearer Military Stone PVT US ARMY World War I 1894-1975 OBITUARY Charlevoix Courier George A. Shearer Funeral services for George A. Shearer, 81, who died Tuesday at Grandvue Medical Care Facility where he had been a patient for a month, were held at the Winchester Funeral Home Thursday, Nov. 13. Msgr. Victor Gallagher of Alpena officiated. Interment was in Brookside cemetery. Mr. Shearer was born in East Jordan on Feb. 2, 1894, and came to Hayes Township as a child. He was a veteran of World War I. In 1922, he was married to the former Agnes Armstrong, who preceded him in death in 1933. In 1939, he was married to the former Esther Brault at Newberry. Mr. Shearer was a road construction worker and traveled around the state, but always maintained a home here. Following his retirement, they returned here to live. He was a member of the Leslie T. Shapton Post No. 226, American Legion. Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Gordon A. of Mt. Clemens; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Raymond (Anita) Rogalla of Reed City; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Carl of Charlevoix and two sisters, Mrs. Daniel Potter and Mrs. Jerry Haggerty, also of Charlevoix: The family suggests that anyone wishing to honor Mr. Shearer's memory contribute to the Grandvue Medical Care Auxiliary or the charity of their choice.
