Smith 1915 - 2001 OBITUARY Franklyn Webster Smith: March 22, 1915- April 5, 2001 Franklyn Webster Smith, 86, of Jackson and formerly of Charlevoix, died April 5, 2001 at Jackson Medical Care Facility in Jackson. A funeral service was given April 8 at the Winchester Funeral Home in Charlevoix. The Rev. Michael Mitchell of the Assembly of God Church officiated. Burial took place in Brookside Cemetery. Frank was born on March 22, 1915, in Jackson, the son of Otto and Blanche (Melhorn) Smith. The family moved to Charlevoix, where he spent his childhood and attended school and worked in his father's grocery store. Frank enjoyed speed skating and won the 1930s Northern Michigan Speed Skating Championship. In 1936, he married Velma Miller. Over the years, Frank sold real estate, owned his own lumber mill, ran a produce stand and sold fish. He was also a veteran serving in the Civil Conservation Corps in California. On Feb. 1, 1975, he married Patsy Bennett in Port Charlotte. Fla. They eventually moved to Eckerman, where they owned and operated a tavern. Survivors include his wife. Patsy of Springport; six children, Delores June Kilpatrick of Jackson, Donna (Frank) Rathjens of Charlevoix, Gary (Gail) Smith of Charlevoix, Stanley (Asondra) Smith of Romulus, Maryann "Suzie" (Robert) Wise of Charlevoix and Steven Smith of Charlevoix, three step-children, Sheri Dawn (John. Sr.) Graffisus of Easton, Penn., Hope Denise Nau of Jackson and Timothy Brian Nau of Jackson; 16 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, one sister.
