Hartwell is the daughter of Thomas and Lilly Belle (O'Brien) Hartwell. OBITUARY Courtesy Charlevoix Library Alma M. Swanson: Sept. 18,1916 - Dec. 23,2001 Alma M. Swanson, 85, of Charlevoix, died Dec. 23. 2001, at Grandvue Medical Care Facility in East Jordan. A funeral service was Dec. 27, at the Winchester Funeral Home in Charlevoix. The Rev. Neil Turner officiated and burial was in Brookside Cemetery in Charlevoix. Alma was born on Sept. 18, 1916, in Charlevoix, the daughter of Thomas and Lilly Belle (O'Brien) Hartwell. She lived in Charlevoix all her life, graduating from Charlevoix High School in 1934. She married Lawrence (Stub) Swanson on June 7, 1934 and he preceded her in death in 1978. Alma worked with her husband as secretary of Swanson Construction until 1974 and then with her sons until her retirement in 1995. Alma was a member of the Community Church of God and was involved with the Cub Scouts when it organized in Charlevoix. She was on the Charlevoix County Board of Canvassers and Secretary of the Rebekah's Lodge for 40 years. Alma is survived by a daughter, Nancy Burdick of Ypsilanti; sons. Thomas (Joan) Swanson of Tucson, Ariz., Kevin (Barb) Swanson and David Swanson of Charlevoix: 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and daughter-in-law, Vera Swanson. Alma was also preceded in death by her son, Larry Swanson, and son-in-law.Chuck Burdick. Memorial contributions may be made to the Community Church of God or Grandvue Medical Care Facility.
