Rachel married Minert Veenstra on July 17, 1937 in Traverse City, Michigan Rachel Jean Whitley Veenstra died January 5, 2001 at Charlevoix hospital. Additional Comments: OBITUARY Courtesy Charlevoix Library Charlevoix Courier Rachel Jean Veenstra: July 16,1917 - Jan. 5,2001 Rachel Jean Veenstra, a lifetime resident of Charlevoix died Jan. 5, 2001 at Charlevoix Area Hospital. Funeral service was 11 a.m., Jan, 8 at the Charlevoix Community Church of God. The Rev. Neil Turner and the Rev. Larry Grooters officiated. A burial will take place in Brookside Cemetery. Rachel was born on July 16, 1917, the daughter of Ray and Alice (Wyman) Whitley. She attended Charlevoix Area High School graduating in 1934. She met Minert (Mike) Veenstra at the Ellsworth Church in 1935 and later was married on July 17, 1937 in Traverse City. The couple lived in Ellsworth for a time, returning to Charlevoix in 1962. Rachel worked for American Mold for 18 years retiring in 1972, and some of her fondest memories are of her coworkers. She was a member of the Community Church of God, where she taught Sunday School for 30 plus years and was loved and adored for her Sunday School parties. She was a member of the Church of God Women's Missionary Society and served as the Chaplain to the Charlevoix Area Hospital where she left her imprint on many peoples lives. Survivors include her husband, Mike of Charlevoix; two sons. Miner "Mick" and his wife Kathleen of South Lyon, Al and his wife Nancy of Jonesville; one daughter. Myrna Boss and her husband Ken of Charlevoix, She cherished and lived for her seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchiIdren. She is also survived by two brothers, Jim Whitley Sr. and Ray Whitley both of Charlevoix. She was preceded in death by a sister, Hilda Landis; a brother, Jerry Whitley; and a nephew Jigs Whitley. Memorial contributions may be made to the Community Church of God.
