Olive L. “Polle” VerWys
August 13, 2007

Polle was born in Boyne Falls on April 7, 1912, the daughter of Fred and Ione
(Otto) Simpson.
In 1932, she married Abe VerWys in Kalamzoo.        

Olive L. "Polle" VerWys, of Charlevoix, died Friday, Aug. 10, 2007, at
Tendercare Nursing Home in Rogers City. Funeral will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, Aug.
14, at the United Methodist Church in Charlevoix. The Rev. Todd Thompson will
officiate, and burial will be in Brookside Cemetery in Charlevoix.

Polle was born in Boyne Falls on April 7, 1912, the daughter of Fred and Ione
(Otto) Simpson. She graduated from Boyne Falls High School in 1928. In 1932, she
married Abe VerWys in Kalamzoo. They made their home in Charlevoix where Polle
was a prominent businesswoman, owning the Hip Shoppe, later known as Polle's
Draperies. She was a member of the Charlevoix United Methodist Church, and the
Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 72.

Abe preceded Polle in death on April 14, 1976.

Polle is survived by her children, George and Lois VerWys of Vestal, New York,
James and Betty VerWys of Palm Desert, Calif., Maudelaine and Edward Huhta of
Warren, Marilou and David Ikens of Rogers City, Stuart VerWys of Lake Charles,
La., Dena and Richard Fischer of Knoxville, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren, 12
great-grandchildren; sister, Arlene Schwacha of Lowell. Polle's daughter Marilyn
Carol also preceded her in death.
