He was born July 29,1927, in Charlevoix and lived there his whole life. He served honorably in the U.S. Army in Okinawa, Japan, in World War II. In 1950, he married Virginia Steenbergh and raised five children; Penny (Doan) of Holland, Mich., the late Ray Sr., Gary of Mancelona, Marcia (Belcher) of Charlevoix and Marc of Holland, Mich.; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and finally his little four-legged buddy — Lucky. Ray was a stone mason by trade his whole life and worked hard to provide for his family. Dad was the epitome of a kind- hearted person and generous to a fault and helped anyone in need. Dad always stopped to help stranded people on the road and often could repair their cars on the spot. He was quite a handyman and could fix anything. He enjoyed reading, camping and was a Tiger fan. From skipping stones with his family at Lake Michigan to building the Earl Young homes — he was a "Charlevoix" man. A family celebration of his life is planned for a later date. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Northwest Michigan. The family was assisted by Charles G. Parks Funeral Home.
