The funeral service will be 11 a.m., Monday, Jan. 21, at the New Hope United Methodist Church in Levering with pastor Matt Stoll officiating. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20,at the Stone Funeral Home. Ray was born on Feb. 17, 1956, in Charlevoix, the son of Ray Carl and Virginia llene (Steenburgh) Whitley Sr. He was raised in Charlevoix, graduating from Charlevoix High School in 1972. Following his graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as a radar operator. He received his honorable discharge in 1976, returned to the Charlevoix area and went to work for an independent contractor as a brick and stone mason, working in the Emmet and Charlevoix County area. On June 18, 1994, Ray became the loving husband of Barbara Nichols and she survives. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and loved the outdoors and camping. He liked to watch westerns as well as the Detroit Tigers. He was a member of the New Hope United Methodist Church in Levering. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara; two daughters, Amy McKeon and Alicia Whitley; his father, Ray Carl Whitley Sr.; two sisters, Penny Doan and Marcia Belcher; two brothers, Gary Duby and Marc Whitley; a niece, Jennifer Zeitler; a nephew, Jerry Zeitler; and by several grandchildren, aunts, uncles and cousins. Memorial donations in Ray's memory may be directed to the family. Arrangements are in the care of the Stone Funeral Home.
