Williams Marguerite K. Williams, 83, of Charlevoix, died Oct. 6, 1993, at Boulder Park Terrace Nursing Home in Charlevoix. Funeral service was Friday, Oct. 8 at United Methodist Church in Charlevoix. The Rev. Dale P. Ostema of United Methodist and the Rev. James Evenhouse of Atwood Christian Reformed Church officiated. Burial will be at Brooksidc Cemetery in Charlevoix. Mrs. Williams was born Feb. 7, 1910 in Charlevoix, the daughter of James and Emma (Sands) Bogart of Charlevoix. She graduated from Charlevoix High School and attended the County Normal School in Mount Pleasant. She moved back to Charlevoix to teach school in Hayes Township. She married Joseph R. Williams on June 3, 1934, in Charlevoix, and he preceded her in death June 10, 1969. She owned and operated Williams News Stand with her husband from 1945-1968. She was a member of United Methodist Church in Charlevoix for over 60 years, where she was a Sunday School teacher, served as church district officer, was president of the women's society and had been elected church woman of the year. She is survived by one son and his wife, William J. and Terri of Acme; a daughter and her husband, Phyllis and John Elzinga of Atwood; five grandchildren, Susan, Cheryl, Tanner, Lisa and Carrie Jo; and a brother, James Bogart of Charlevoix. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Irene, on Dec. 11, 1983. Memorial contributions may be made to United Methodist Church or Charlevoix Area Hospital. Envelopes for that purpose are available at Winchester Funeral Home in Charlevoix. ________________________________________________________________________ OBITUARY Joseph R. Williams dies Tuesday Joseph R. Williams, a long-time resident and businessman of Charlevoix, died Tuesday morning at the Charlevoix Hospital. He had been a patient at the hospital for 13 days. Williams was born in Eastport, Michigan, on July 28, 1906. H moved to Charlevoix 43 years ago, after leaving Ellsworth. In June, 1934, he married the former Marguerite Bogart in Charlevoix. Mrs. Williams survives her husband. Joseph Williams is a well-known man about town. His Cigar Store, which was formerly located across the street, was moved in 1965. The County State Bank now occupies the first home of his store. It was relocated across the street, and became a meeting place for people for many years. He owned and operated the store, before selling it last year to retire. Besides owning his business, Williams was a member of the Charlevoix Methodist Church. He was also active in social and civic activities, including Charlevoix Lodge 282, F & AM; the Charlevoix Rod and Gun Club, and the Charlevoix Development Corporation. He also served on the board for the Retarded Childrens' School. Williams is survived by his wife, one son, William J. Williams of the 101st Airborn Division, U.S. Army, now serving in Vietnam; One daughter, Mrs. John (Phyllis) Elzinga of Atwood, and two grandchildren.
