Kay Maurer Dies in 1-Car Accident

Mrs. William (Kay) Maurer, who was to take over as manager of Keith Dressers new
real estate office in Charlevoix this week, was killed about 8:30 a.m. Saturday
when her 1966 Pontiac crashed head-on into a large maple tree on Deer Lake Road
in eastern Charlevoix County.

Mrs. Maurer, 40, of R-2, East Jordan, the mother of five, was pronounced dead on
arrival at Little Traverse Hospital in Petoskey.

State Police say the accident took place on a straight stretch of pavement on a
short grade on Deer Lake Road, one mile west of M -75. They said the vehicle
went off the west side of the road and crashed into a tree.

The impact of the crash was so great that the car engine was pushed back into
the rear passenger compartment.

Mrs. Maurer reportedly was enroute to Petoskey to pick up a friend of her
13-year old daughter, Andrea.

A licensed realtor, Mrs. Maurer had worked for Dressel Realty for several years
and was to have taken over as manager of the Charlevoix office.

She is survived by her husband, William J. Maurer, an engineer with television
station WTOM at Cheboygan; three daughters; Linda, 19; Andrea, 13; and Monique,
7; and two sons, William C. Jr., 6, and Michael, 3.

Also surviving are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Daigneault of East Jordan
and a brother, Richard Daigneault of Los Angeles, California.

The former Catherine Genevive Daigneault was born in Detroit February 15,1931,
and has lived in northern Michigan for the past six years.

Funeral mass was Tuesday at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in East Jordan, the
Rev. Fr. Joseph Malinowski officiating. A graveside service was held at South
Arm Township Cemetery, East Jordan, the Rev. Chandler Benton of the first
Presebyterian Church officiating.
