Mavis I. 1920 - 1995 1925 - 1990 OBITUARY Mavis I. Bowerman, 65, of Charlevoix, died October 29, 1990, at Little Traverse Division, Northern Michigan Hospitals. Funeral mass was 10 a.m. Thursday, November 01, at St Mary's Church, Charlevoix. The Rev.James K. Gardiner officiated with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, Charlevoix. The former Mavis I. McCrumb was born June 9,m 1925 in Battle Creek, Michigan, the daughter of John and Cecile (Olson) McCrumb. She grew up in Battle Creek and on November 12, 1959, she married James L. Bowerman in Wolverine. The couple had resided in Hastings before moving to Charlevoix in 1968. She is survived by her husband, James L. of Charlevoix; four sons, Randall W. Barney of Burlington, Steven L. Barney and Robert C. Castelein of Petoskey; one brother, Gary Slocum of Tucson, Arizona and one sister, Audrey Thomas of Hastings; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorial to st. Mary's Altar Society. ___________________________________________________________________ OBITUARY James L. Bowerman, 75 James L. Bowerman, 75, of Charlevoix. died July 23, 1995, at his home in Charlevoix Funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday. July 25. at St Mary's Catholic Church in Charlevoix. The Rev Thomas Neis will officiate, and burial will he in St. Mary's Cemetery, Charlevoix. Mr. Bowerman was brn July 3. 1920, in Middleville, Mich., the son of James L. and Emma (Butler) Bowerman. He was raised in the Hastings area. He served in the U.S Army during World War II On Nov. 12.1959, he married Mavis I. McGrumb in Wolverine. She preceded him in death on Oct 29, 1990 Mr. Bowerman winked in commercial refrigeration for Montgomery Ward throughout the state of Michigan, retiring in 1974. He was then self-employed, continuing to work in commercial refrigeration. He had worked for Terry Left at his restaurants in Charlevoix — Great Lakes White-fish and Chips, Villager Pub and Terry's Place. Mr. Bowerman was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the Knights of Columbus Pierre de Charlevoix Council No. 7172, and St Mary 's Catholic Church in Charlevoix. Survivors include four sons. James L. Bowerman of Battle Creek. Steven Harney of Petoskey, Randy Barney of Burlington. Mich., and Rob Castelein of Petoskey; two daughters, Anita Hickerson and her husband, Phil, of Jackson. Tenn., and Loren Kidder of Ishpeming: several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother, Edward Bowerman, of Shelbyville, and three sisters, Alice Strumberger and Doris Haight, both of Middleville, and Gladys Carter of Grand Rapids. Mr. Bowerman was preceded in death by a brother. Rollo. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Hospice of Little Traverse Bay. Envelopes for memorials are available at the Winchester Funeral Home in Charlevoix, where friends may call from 6 9 p.m. today, July 24. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
