Bob graduated from Redford High School in Detroit and attended Albion College for two years. Bob was honorably discharged from the US Army and married his school days sweetheart Janice Clair Miron on July 8, 1961 at St. Monica’s Church in Detroit. Bob worked at the Detroit Metropolitan Airport as an airport safety officer, an airport firefighter, fire lieutenant, assistant fire chief and airport fire chief. Bob was also a volunteer fireman with the Farmington Hills Fire Department for seven years. Bob and Jan moved from Farmington Hills to their place at Black Lake in 1992 after summering here since 1973. Bob worked as a bus driver for the Sand Road Senior Center. Bob and Jan were members of the Black Lake Lion’s Club. In addition to his wife Janice, Bob is survived by their three children: a son, Michael Louis Baers, grandchildren, Joshua Robert Baers and Megan Michelle Baers, all of Traverse City; a daughter Patricia Ann Baers, a grandson Nathan Patrick Baers also of Traverse City, daughter Karen Renee Held, son-in-law Eric Held, grandsons Ryan Michael and Anthony Jordan Held all of Redford, a sister Janet Lois Neubauer, a brother-in-law Frederick M. Neubauer of Troy, four nephews and a niece, three grand nephews and a grand niece. A brother-in-law Dennis G. Miron of Ocala Florida, two nephews and two nieces and one grand niece. Bob wishes to be cremated and his cremains will be interred in the Maple Grove Cemetery in the Upper Peninsula city of Munising. Bob and his family would appreciate donations be made in his name to either Hospice of the Straits, the American Cancer Society or the Ann Arbor Burn Center. Arrangements are being held by the Nordman’s Funeral Home. Visitations will be held from 2-4 and 7 -9 p.m. on Tuesday. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Nordman’s Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at the burial site at a later date.
