Keeney, age 88, passed away after a short illness at ll:20 am Saturday, October 28, 2000 in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Harold was born in Melita Township, Michigan, on August 23, 1912, the son of the late Isaac K. and Gala E. Keeney. He graduated from Central High School in Lansing, MI in 1933. He served his country in the Army Air Force during WWII, serving for 26 months in England. He worked for General Motors in Lansing, MI prior to his retirement in Harrison. He was a life member of the UAW #602, VFW Post #701, and the American Legion Post #404. He was also a member of the Harrison Moose Lodge 42235. Harold came from true pioneer stock. At least two members of his family served in the army during the American Revolutionary War and others were some of the first settlers in Arenac County. Harold spent a lot of time hunting and fishing. He is survived by a daughter, Janice (Chester) Barrett of Sault Ste. Marie, MI; a granddaughter, Ddanna (Jack) Chamberlain of Perry, MI, a grandson, James (Debra) Barrett of Sault Ste. Marie, MI, and two great grandchildren, Lance and Michael Barrett of Sault Ste. Marie, MI, and two sisters, Alberta (Lee) Ries of Deland, FL and Helena Petersen of Fullerton, CA. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews in Michigan, Florida and California. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Ruth (Peterson), his brother, Russell Keeney (killed in WWII) and his parents. Memorial services and interment will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, Hovember 2, 2000 at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Lansing, MI.
