Obituary from the Clare County Cleaver, Harrison, Mi., 11-2-2000 Alex Eresten of Grass Lake, age 83, died Friday, October 27, 2000 at Chelsea Community Hospital. He was born April 9, 1917 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the son of Stephan and Mary Sophia (Exczophia) Eresten. He had been a resident of Chelsea area for many years. Following retirement he had lived in Harrison and Bradenton, FL. He was the husband of Josephine D'Andrea whom he married on May 31, 1941 He was the father of Denise (Raleigh) Niblick of Palmetto, FL, Alexandra (Robert) Doolin of Stockbridge, Stephan Eresten of Chelsea, Annette Mellon (Michael Piper) of Sanford, MI, Alex (Kim) Eresten of Grass Lake, grandfather of Michele Clay of Louisa KY, Dan Ellenwood of Munith, Michael Ellenwood of Chelsea, Jimmy Sweeney of Marshall MI, Zachary and Stacie Eresten both of Chelsea, Renae and Sarah Mellon both of Bradenton, FL, and five great grandchildren. The Brother of Mary and Uncle to many nieces and nephews. Alex retired from the Chrysler Proving Grounds being one of the original drivers before the grounds were established. He was also an avid hunter and outdoorsman. Alex was a veteran of the US Army during WWII, starting his military career in the Cavalry, stationed in Kansas and was transferred to the Motorcycle Corp. and then the Tank Corp. He was a tank commander during the D Day Invasion of Normandy. Mr. Eresten was the Past Commander of Herbert J. McKane Post 3l, American Legion of Chelsea, VFW Post 404 of Harrison, MI, AM Vets Post 22 of Bradenton, Fl. and American Legion Post 312 of Bradenton and was Chaplain of DAV Post 18 of Bradenton. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. The family received friends Saturday from 12.00 noon untill 4:00 p.. at the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home, Chelsea, with military honors provided by Herbert J. McKane Post 3l at 4:00 p.m. Saturday.
