May 3, 2000 Robert John Babcock was born on June 7, 1929 in Iron Mountain as the son of Ralph and Beatrice (Jensen) Babcock. He was one of eight children: brothers: Ralph Babcock, Rowland (wife Mary) Babcock, Richard (wife Pat) Babcock, Carl Lynch, Earl Lynch and sisters: Ruth (Husband Owen) Clark and Carol (Husband Floyd) Scott. On July 10, 1954, Robert was wed to Mary Ellen Houtterman in Detroit. Together they raised four children: son, Kevin (wife Cindy) Babcock of Port Huron and daughters Karen Babcock of Detroit, Kimberly Babcock of Detroit and Kathleen Babcock. Bob retired from the Selfridge Air Base in 1989 and moved to Harrison. He became a member of the VFW Post #l075, Lions Club, and volunmteered for the Clare County Sheriff Department. He was also part of the Hamilton Township Neighborhood Watch and enjoyed participating in the CB road patrol. Bob loved the outdoors, cleaning his "park", hunting and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was very close to family and friends, and was always there for others. Mr. Babcock died on Sunday, April 22, 2001 at the age of 71. He leaves behind his wife, Mary; son Kevin; daughters, Karen and Kimberly; brothers, Rowland, Richard, Carl, Earl; sisters Ruth and Carol; 12 grandchildren; and one great grandchild. Preceding him in death are his parents; daughter, Kathleen; and brother, Ralph. Visitation for Robert Babcock was held on Wednesday, April 25 at l-3 and 5-7 pm with a wake service at 6:30 pm at Stocking Funeral Home. A funeral mass was held to celebrate his life Thursday April 26, at 11:00 am at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, with Fr. David Howell officiating. Interment will be held in Hillcrest Cemetery in Greenwood Township. Arrangements were entrusted to Stocking Funeral Home.
