Gerald Racy Calkins was born June 25, 1947 in Newberry as the son of
Franklin and Fern (Verrett) Calkins.  Gerald was an only child growing
up in Newberry, graduating from Newberry High School.  On July 10,1972,
Mr. Calkins was wed to Betty Mark.  Together they had three children;
sons, Scott (Jennifer) Calkins of Lake and Franklin Calkins II of
Richmond, Michigan, and daughter, Lilyann (Keith) Eichhorn of Lake.
      Gerald and Betty moved to Lake in 1980 where he was a member of the
Lake Eagles Aerie 176l and enjoyed hunting, fishing, yard work, stock
car racing, woodworking out of his home, tinkering in his garage, going
to the casino in Mt. Pleasant and volunteeering at Hopkins Adult Foster
Care Home.
      Mr. Calkins died Monday, July 17, 2000 at his home a the age of
53.  He leaves behind his wife, father, step-mother: Janis Calkins;
children, grandchildren, Travis Martin, Haley Calkins, Whitney, Conner,
Tanner Calkins, Dalton Calkins, and Jason Eichhorn.  Preceding Gerald in
death is his mother.  There will be a memorial service held to celebate
Gerald's life on Thursday July 20, 200l at 11 a.m. with Pastor Douglas
Blackwell officiating at Stocking Funeral Home.  Arrangements were
entrusted to Stocking Funeral Home, Inc. in Harrison, Michigan.
