Irene B. Davy, age 89 of Clare, passed away Saturday, October 24, 1998 at E. W. Sparrow Hospital in Lansing. Irene was born the daughter of Dr. K.B. and Kaite (McLean) Potter on September 9, 1909 in Mt. Pleasant. She married John E. Davy on December 26 1946 in San Antonio, Tx, and he predeceased her on January 31, 1953. Irene graduated from Sparrow Hospital in Lansing in 1932, then she took graduate courses in Psychiatric Nursing at the University of Iowa Hospital. She was later Chief nurse at the new Psychiatric Center in Traverse City, where she was employed until Pearl Harbor when she entered the Army Nurse Corps. She was one of the first people to be trained in the Electroencephalography (EEG). She was promoted to first Lieutenant, while in the Army. She returned to Clare in 1947 after her husband's death, became the first school nurse for the Clare Public Schools. She retired in 1970 following a heart attack. Irene was a member of the Clare Congregational U.C.C. since 1947. She was also a member of the Red Cross, the National Retired Teachers Association, the Michigan Nurses Association, and the Salvation Army. Mrs. Davy is survived by a son Tom (Carol) Davy of Florida, a daughter Patricia (William) Colclough of Lansing, and one grandson William Davy Colclough of Lansing; a sister-in-law Frances FitzGerald of Bay City; two nieces Nancy Moore and Connie Grove of Coleman, and one cousin Jean Cerny of Clare. Irene was predeceased by her brother Burgess Potter and a sister Marvel Searight. A Memorial Service for Irene will be held on Wednesday, October 28, 1998, ll:00 a.m. at the Clare Congregational United Church of Christ, with Rev. Margaret Vredeveld officiating. Visitation will be from l0:00 a.m. until the time of service at the Church. Memorial may be made to the Clare Congregational U.C.C., the Garfield Memorial Library, or as the Donor wishes.
