Dec. 16, 1999 Nina G. Detwiler passed away Thursday, December 9, 1999, age 86 years. Nina Goldie Detwiler was born February 22, 1913 in Grant, Micigan to Jacob Harvey and Jamima (Lackie) Detwiler. They predeceased her. She was a member of First Free Methodist Church in Saginaw. Nina moved with her family to Corunna, Michigan when she was three years old. Her parents and the family moved to a farm in Henderson, Michigan in 1920. Her first year of high school was in Clare, Michigan, and the last two years were in Freesoil, Micigan. Nina enrolled in the Saginaw General Hospital School of Nursing in 1932 and graduated as a registered nurse in 1935. She worked as a private duty nurse and at Saginaw General Hospital as a supervisor. She attended Spring Arbor Junior College in 1946 to prepare to go to Lundi Mission in Southern Rhodesia, Africa as a Medical Missionary Nurse. She worked for the Free Methodist Mission Board from 1947 to 1964. For the next few years she worked at Hoyt Nursing Home in Saginaw, and Hampton Nursing Home, Bay City, and later for Malleable Iron Central Foundry, retiring in March, 1978. Surviving are three nieces and their husbands; Ruth M. (Roy) Willoughby of Chesaning, Amy I. (Harold) Brandt of Saginaw, Mary E. (Earl) Weeden of Elsie, a brother Ralph (Ruth) Detwiler of Alma, and several nieces and nephews and many friends. Nina was predeceased by her brother Orie Detwiler in 1947, her sister Aleta M. Detwiler Smith in 1977. Funeral service took, place 11:00 am Monday, at the Free Methodist Church, 2625 North Center Rd, Saginaw; Rev. Paul I. Armstrong officiated. Interment took plac at Cherry Grove Cemetery in Clare, Michigan. Memorial offerings may be given to the Free Methodist Church, or the First Free Methodist Mission of Luther Manor, Saginaw.
