Hopkins, 73, of Clare, formerly of Harrison, passed away Sunday, May 6, 200l at Mid Michigan Regional Medical Center, Midland. Mrs. Hopkins was born October l, 1927 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Maurice B. and Elsie J. (Meredith) Cole. Doris was united in marriage to Robert E. Hopkins on March 9, 1946 in Detroit, Michigan. Mr. Hopkins preceded her in death on August 29, 1996. Doris was a member of the Harrison Women's Club, Clare-Gladwin Literacy Council and a volunteer for Mid Michigan Hospice. Surviving Doris are two sons: Dr. James M. Hopkins and wife Dr. Kathy Spiegel of Grass Lake, Michigan and David W. Hopkins of Rochester Hills, Michigan, one daughter: Rebekah J. Oakley of Harrison; one brother: Meredith (Marty) Cole and wife Georgia of New Boston, Michigan; one sister, Elsie J. Varterasian and husband Charles of Seminole, Florida; three grandchildren, Thomas A. Oakley, John R. Hopkins, and Emily Hopkins, plus several nieces and nephews. Doris was also preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, May 9, 200l at 2:00 pm from the First Congregational Church, Harrison with Rev. Dr. James Harwood officiating. Internment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery, Greenwood Twp., Harrison. Memorial Contributions may be considered to the American Diabetes Society. Arrangements were entrusted to Stocking Funeral Home, Harrison.
