Garver Claimed by Death at Hospital After Weeks of Illness Charles Leslie Garver, youngest child of John and Mary Garver was born in Crawford county, Ohio, October 24, 1866 and departed this life at Ann Arbor October 25, 1931, at the age of sixty-five years and one day. He grew to manhood in Defiance county, where on October 24, 1889 he was united in marriage to Miss Emma Hileman, of Okolona, Ohio. To this union was born nine children, namely: Walter, Forest, John, Roy, Mrs. Mabel Leith, Mrs. Florence Kever, Mrs. Beatrice Acre, all of Clare county, Ray of Longmont, Colorado and Alta Beattie, of Saginaw. On November 2, 1902 they came to Clare county buying the farm in Arthur township which is now their home. He was converted fourteen years ago, and joined the United Brethren church at Brown Corners and was always found at his post of duty when health permitted. He has been in failing health for a number of years, and had been confined to his bed for the past six weeks. He was taken to the University hospital at Ann Arbor on Tuesday and death claimed him on Sunday evening. He leaves to mourn, besides his faithful wife and children, twenty-four grand children, two great grand children, other relatives and many neighbors and friends who will miss him. The funeral services were held from the Brown Corners church Thursday, October 29, at 2:00 p.m., by Rev. B. Davis. The body was placed in the vault at Cherry Grove cemetery, to wait the arrival of the son, Ray, who was unable to get here in time. He arrived Thursday night at twelve o’clock. The burial took place Saturday afternoon. Those who came from a distance for the last rites were: Mrs. George Brubaker and son, Russell, and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Hileman, of Jewel, Ohio; Mrs. Hugh Brubaker, Okolona, Ohio; Mrs. and Mrs. Virgil Ott, Mrs. Pearl Watrous, Mrs. Alta Fester, of Dayton, O., and Mrs. Opal Reason, of Waynesville, Ohio; Mrs. Ellen Garver, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Garver and daughter, Mrs. Walter Chester and Mrs. Ralph Denno, of Lansing, and Glen Baker, of Detroit.
