August 19, 1999 Cleland "Jake" Green, age 76 of Clare, passed away at his home, Monday, August 9, after a very lengthy illness. Jake was born the son of Ernest C. and Carrie (Sunday) Green on September 22, 1922 in Clare. He married the former Elaine W. Frey on April 1, 1942 in Clare. He was a Veteran of WWII serving in England and France. He was a lifeime member of the Clare VFW Post and served as its Post First Commander. Jake moved to Mt. Pleasant in 1951 where he was in business with Leo Beard Lincoln Mercury. He later began his own car dealership, Pleasant Motors. In the middle sixties he moved on to become Vice President of Sales for the Travco Corp. of Detroit. He was transferred in 1970 to Newark, Ohio as Vice President and General Manager of Sightseer Corp. In 1979 he accepted the position of Vice President of the Motor Home Division of Avco Corporation in Nashville, Tenn. until his illness in 1987. In 1990 he moved back to Clare to be close to his family and friends. He had many outside interests, but he most cherished his golf outings with his many dear friends. Jake is survived by his wife of 57 years, Elaine; a son Timothy E. (Linda) Green of New Port Beach, Ca.,, a daughter Jacqueline (Randy) House of Mt. Pleasant; 2 brothers, Leonel (Juanita) Green and K. C. (Betty) Green of Clare; 4 grandchildren, Brendan (Jill) Green of Long Beach, Ca, Chad Oliver House of Mt. Pleasant, Annie Green of New Port Beach, Ca., and Timothy Tracy House of Chicago, Il. Jake is survived by many more loving relatives and dear friends. Funeral Services took place Thursday, August 12 at l:00 pm at the Clare United Methodist Church with Pastor Gregory Wolfe officiating. burial was in the Cherry Grove Cemetery.
