BOB HEMSTREET FOUND DEAD HERE SUNDAY MORNING
World War II Veteran Laid at Rest With Military Honors

Carl Robert Hemstreet, the twenty-one year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. 
Hemstreet of Sheridan township, was found unconscious at 10:45 o'clock Sunday 
morning by a chambermaid, Martha O'Connell, in one of the Lone Pine cabins on 
US-27 in the northern part of Clare.  State Police of the Mt. Pleasant Post 
were called and they called coroner Andrew Friz, the latter determining that 
Robert was dead.

Carl Freeman, a young man who works at the Lone Pine cabins, went with Robert 
to the cabin at 2:30 Sunday morning and lit the fire in the gas heater, and 
the victim was not seen again until found by the chambermaid at 10:45.

State Police Medical Advisor Dr. C. W. Muehlberger was called and performed an 
autopsy, assisted by Dr. Black.  The findings of the autopsy, as announced by 
Prosecuting Attorney Joseph K. Naumes, were:

"Blood test showed 65% saturation with carbon monoxide gas.    This was the 
cause of death.   
              
"Test of heater in cabin showed that it created enough carbon monoxide to be 
deadly in 48 minutes time.

"Alcoholic content less than one-half of one per cent.

"Carl Robert Hemstreet was not beaten, bruised or marked in any manner."

Carl Robert Hemstreet was born the son of George and Mary Hemstreet in 
Sheridan township, Clare county, Michigan, June 19, 1925, and passed away at 
Clare, Michigan, November 3, 1946, at the age of twenty-one years, four months 
and fifteen days.
