Henderson 76, veteran Clare County Clerk died suddenly Early Wednesday morning and left the court house at Harrison without one of its most widely known and respected figures. He had held the local government post continuously for 37 years. Death apparently came in Mr. Henderson's sleep sometime Tuesday night or early morning of Wednesday. He was discovered at 6:30 by his son, Allen who awoke his mother and then notified Sheriff James Darling and other friends and colleagues at the court house. Clinton R. Case, chairman of the Clare County Board of Supervisors was in Harrison Wednesday to pay his respects to the Henderson family, and begin conferences with the court officers on temporary procedures to keep the clerk's office operating. According to Sheriff Darling, appointment of a successor will be made by a three member authority including the circuit judge Robert Campbell, the county prosecutor, Jay Trucks, a member from the staff of the Michigan Attorney General or someone appointed by the Attorney General. Judge Campbell was studying exact procedure to be followed. Among several deputies in the county clerk's office, two were Discussed as probable interim successors who might be acting clerk. They are Mrs. Hilda McGeen and Mrs. Ruth Stanley. Mr. Henderson was born January 23, 1890 in Cowan, Tennessee, coming to the Clare area at the age of two years. He received is early education at the Pratt school in Clare County, later attending Clare High School where he graduated in 1908. Following graduation he taught school in Clare County for four years, then took a business course at Ferris Institute. He was employed with the Grand Trunk Railroad at Durand and also Worked in his early years for Clare Oil & Drum Company and with Aladin Company in Bay City, before returning to Clare County where he farmed for 10 years. In 1928 he was elected clerk for Clare County and has served continuously since then. In 1914 he was married to Josephine E. Allen who survives along with one son, Allen and a brother, Earl Henderson of Clare. He was a member of John Q. Look Lodge and Zenobia Chapter, O.E.S both of Clare and Royal Arch Masons of Mt. Pleasant. Funeral Services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock from Harrison Congregational church with Rev. Robert Mc Cleary officiating and burial in Cherry Grove Cemetery. He may be seen at the Coker's Harrison Chapel until 12:00 noon Saturday.
