The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. http://www.usgwarchives.net ******************************************************************************** Obituaries: Joan Marie (VanHoudt) Pank, 2001, Harrison, Clare County, Michigan Obituary from the Clare Countty (Michigan) Cleaver, July 12. 200l Joan Marie (VanHoudt) Pank was born on September 19, 1935 in Applegate, Michigan as the daughter of Renny and Stella (Crawford) VanHoudt. She was one of four children; with brother William (wife Judy) Garrick, and sisters, Mary Lou (husband Benedict) Larosa and Patricia (husband Richard) Knapp. In 1955 she was wed to George Pank, together raising three children: sons Brad (wife Diane) Pank of Australia and Darrell Pank of Fostoria, Michigan; and daughter Dawn (husband Christopher) Pank-Wagner. Joan was a foster mother for 108 children and was awarded Foster Parent of the Year three times. She moved from Greenland, Michigan to Harrison in 1995 where she became a member of St. Athanasius Catholic Church. She enjoyed listening to music and books on tape. Joan spent her time making cards at church, traveling, emailing, knitting, crocheting and making patch quilts. In her younger years she enjoyed oil painting. Joan loved traveling, wind chimes, gardening, flowers and spending time with her family. Mrs. Pank died on Thursday, June 28, 200l at the age of 65. She leaves behind her sons, brother, sisters, four grandchildren, Nicholas and Adam Wagner and Nichole and Sarah Pank, nieces and nephews, and many good friends. Preceding her in death are her parents, husband, and daughter. There are no services planned at this time. Arrangements were entrusted to Stocking Funeral Home in Harrison. jic
