Oct. 14, 1999 Albert "Bud" Leslie Kerns, 76, of Harrison, passed away suddenly, Tuesday, October 5, 1999 at Mid Michigan Regional Medical Center, Gladwin, Michigan. Bud was born July 23, 1923 in Greenville, Michigan, the son of Carl and Gladys Kerns. Mr. Kerns had resided in rural Harrison since 1963, moving from Greenville. He built, owned and operated the Kerns Grocery in Dodge Lake from 1964 until his retirement in 1972. For many years, Mr. Kerns added to the Magic of Christmas for children in the area. Albert "Bud" Kerns was united in marriage to Hazel I. Forward on July 21, 1959 in Greenville. Mrs. Kerns preceded him in death on March 14, 1978. Bud served in the U.S. Army during W.W.II and was a member of the American Legion Post 404 of Harrison. Surviving are two sons, Richard Jensen and wife Chris of Harrison and Lyle Kerns and wife Sherry, also of Harrison; seven daughters, Luana Russell and husband John of Midland, Kelly Maser and husband Robert of Manistee; Kimberly Kerns and companion Steve Longnecker, Harrison; Marcella Ort and husband Richard of Trufant; Patricia Cook of Crystal; Pam Bishop and husband Robert of Lansing and Gayle Redder and husband Rick of Toledo; twenty two grandchildren, eight greatgrandchildren, plus other relatives and friends. Bud was precded ij death by his parents and a brother Alvin. Funeral Services were held Friday, October 8, 1999 at ll:00 am from Stocking Funeral Home, Harrison, with Elder Dale Beavers and Rev. Mary Anne Evans-Justin officiating. Interment was in Maple Grove Cemetery, Harrison, Michigan. Military honors were conducted by the American Legion Post 404, Harrison.
