Gerow Mary E. Gerow, 92, of Clare died Friday, Dec. 24, 1982 in the Dearborn Heights Convalesant Center in Dearborn Heights. Mary was born July 18, 1890 in Sheridan Township, the youngest of eleven children born to James and Martha Ann (Shipman) Orvis. On Sept. 28, 1910 she married Wesley Gerow in Clare. Mr. Gerow died Oct. 26, 1963. A son, Norman, died in France during World War II. Mrs. Gerow worked in the Clare Kroger Store and as a seamstress for the William H. Bicknell Co. in the 1940s and 1950s. During her farm years she was a member of the Colonville Ladies Aid and involved with home extension work. In 1962 she received recognition for 30 years of service form the Clare County Extension Office. In later years Mary was a member of the Gold Star Mothers and the Clare Rebekah Lodge. She is survived by 2 sons, Stanley Gerow of Detroit and Allan Gerow of Houghton Lake; 2 daughters, Mrs. Jack (Armalee) VanBeelen of Carson City and Mrs. Ethel Pryor of Inkster; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Gold Star Mothers held memorial services at the funeral home Monday, Dec. 27 at 7:30 p.m. and the Rebekah Lodge held memorial services at 8:00 p.m. Monday, Dec. 27. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 28 at 1:00 p.m. in the Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Hilliard officiating. Burial was in Memorial Gardens, Mt. Pleasant.
