Merlewayne was born the son of Clarence and Mary (Ginn) Cotton on January 10. 1934 in Clare. He married the former Carol Wieferich onOctober 24 1953 in Clare. Merlewayne had worked as a machinist for Future Mold in Farwell and also had worked for Reiss Real Estate in Farwell. Merlewayne had attended the Colonville Church of God and also the First Baptist Church. He was also a member of the John Q. Look lodge of the Masons and the Schriners. Merlewayne is survived by his wife Carol, two sons: Gary (Lynette) Cotton of Farwell and Jim (Katrina) Cotton, of Clare; three daughters: Kathy (Lonnie) Bowles of Oklahoma, Cherie Bauer of California and Mary Jane (Bill) Strouse of Clare; a brother-in-law, John Bicknell of Clare; 19 grandchildren and one great grandchild. His parents; a sister Jane Bicknell; and a son-in-law predeceased Merlewayne. Services will take place on Saturday, Mach 24, at ll:00 am at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dutch Gerdes and the Pastor Douglas Blackwell officiating. Burial will be in the Cherry Grove Cemetery in Clare. Memorials may be made to the Mid Michigan Hospice.
