The submitter has given permission to the MIGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. _____________________________________________________________________ The Clare Sentinel, Friday, December 17, 1915 James Riley Orvis Mr. Orvis was born in Potter Co., Penn., Jan. 17, 1839, and died at his home in Sheridan township Dec. 10, 1915, thus living to a ripe old age. In Oct. 1862 he was married to Martha Ann Shipman and to this union 11 children were born all of whom are living. The family moved to Michigan in 1872, settling first in Lenawee Co., then in 1873 coming to Sheridan in this county where they have since resided. The children are John of Portland, Oregon, Will of Kalamazoo, Claud and James of Marion, Mrs S.W. Gerow, Mrs. Clarence Kirkpatrick, Mrs. A. Langworthy, Mrs. Wesley Gerow, Burt, Eugene and Ervin. Forty-one grandchildren and 24 great grand children survive. All were present at the funeral except the sons John and Will. The funeral, conducted by Rev. Frank Bates and Rev. Moffat of Middleville, was held at the Colonville church on Sunday last with burial in Cherry Grove.
