The submitter has given permission to the MIGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. _____________________________________________________________________ ILA BROCKWAY-PFANNES Ila Brockway-Pfannes, age 86, passed away at the Mid-Michigan Regional Medical Center, Clare, on Tuesday, April 6, 1999. She was born on September 9, 1912, in Greenwood Township, Clare County, Michigan, the daughter of Charlie and Nina (Town) VanBlarcom. She married Howard R. Brockway on November 9, 1929, in Harrison. To this union were born three children, Thomas H., Alice L. and Dale R.. Howard and Ila purchased his mothers farm in Hatton Township in 1938 and Snowsnake Mountain in 1959. She was affectionately known to many as "Grandma". She secondly married William Pfannes on January 27, 1973, also in Harrison. Ila served many years as a volunteer in the Clare Hospital Cafeteria, the Clare County Fair, the Clare County 4H and was a member of the First Congregational Church of Christ in Harrison and the National and Michigan Ski Area Associations. She served as both Clerk and Treasurer of Hatton Township. She is survived by her sons-Thomas H. (Madeline) Brockway and Dale R. (Carolyn) Brockway, a daughter, Alice (Dan) Romes, 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, a brother, Frank Eugene (Lydia) VanBlarcom, a sister, Cynthia Chamberlain and husband Warren Dunstan plus other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; Charlie (1961), Nina (1957), husbands, Howard Brockway (1969) and William Pfannes (1997); brother, A. Frank VanBlarcom (1991); sister, Nell Porter (1992) and a granddaughter Jada L. Brockway (1998). Funeral services were held Friday, April 9, 1999, at 2:00 P.M. from the First Congregational Church, Harrison, with Rev. Robert Kauffman officiating. Interment was in the Hatton Township Cemetery, Harrison, Michigan. Memorial contributions may be considered to the First Congregational Church of Christ Building Fund or Hospice of Clare County. Arrangements were by Stocking Funeral Home, Harrison.
