Smith, 20, Coleman veteran of World War II, were killed and three others seriously injured early Sunday morning on US-27, five miles northwest of Alma, when the car driven by Smith left the highway and crashed into a tree. Both died of multiple skull fractures. Smith was killed instantly, while Miss Pearson died upon admittance to the Smith Memorial Hospital in Alma. A junior at the Harrison High School, Miss Pearson was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Pearson. She was born April 21, 1932, in Harrison. Surviving are three brothers, Frank, Lester, and Leon; and two sisters, Mrs. Violet Blosser and Mrs. Doreen Henry, all of Harrison. Funeral services were held at 2:00 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Fansing Funeral Home in Harrison. The Rev. M. C. Hilton, of Harrison officiated and burial was in the Summerfield Township Cemetery. Pall bearers were her classmates, Harry Lee, Billy Amble, John P. Gibson, Dan Romes, David Miller and Ralph Neely. Singing was by Mrs. Hilton and Mrs. Loie Hecker.
