JOHN RUNYAN LIVED IN FARWELL OVER HALF A CENTURY

John Runyan, a pioneer of Clare County, passed away at the home of his 
daughter, Mrs. Edwin Hanes, of Farwell, Sunday evening Sept. 22, 1935.

John Wesley Runyan was born at Defiance, Ohio, October 31, 1859.  At the age 
of 6 years, he came with his parents to Saginaw Co. and four years later to 
Clare County, where the remainder of his life was spent.

At the age of 21 he was united in marriage to Clara Merrill, who preceded him 
in death six years ago.  

To this union was born five children, Mrs. Minnie Langworthy of Flint, Mrs. 
Nellie Garchow of Alba, Mrs. Cleona Hanes of Farwell, and Mrs. Fannie Haas, of 
Detroit, and one son, Duard, who passed away in 1906.

He also leaves to mourn their loss, two brothers, Edwin and Cortis [sic], of 
Clare, two sisters, Mrs. Alice Clemons of Midland, and Mrs. Amy Gliman [sic] 
of Saginaw, also twenty-one grandchildren and twenty-six great grandchildren.

Mr. Runyan gave his life to Christ in early manhood and continues to serve him 
until the end.  He was a kind and loving husband and father and will be 
greatly missed.

The funeral service was held at the Church of God in Farwell and was conducted 
by the Rev. Mary House assisted by Rev. VanBrocklin.

Those who attended from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Langworthy of Flint, 
Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Garchow, son and daughter, from Alba, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Haas 
and four children, Mrs. Leora Isanhart, and Francis Hanes of Detroit, Mr. and 
Mrs. B. Garchow, of Lansing, Rev., and Mrs. Frank Cooper, of Evart, Mrs. Pearl 
Holmes, Mrs. Thursa Stacy and three children and Wesley Langworthy of LeRoy, 
Mr. and Mrs. Lester Clemons and Mrs. Alice Clemons of Midland.
