Herbert "Gale" Shilling, age 53, of Clare passed away suddenly Tuesday, February 13, 200l, in Flint. Gale was born the son of Herbert J. and L. Maxine (Thurman) Shilling on March 5, 1947 in Mt. Pleasant. Gale married the former Julia Muller on July 27, 1968 in California. Gale was a lifelong resident of Clare with the exception of 8 years spent in California. He was a 1965 graduate of the Farwell High School. Soon after he joined the Navy SeaBees (MCB9) and served two tours of duty in South Vietnam. Gale was a Team Leader in the Consumer Power Company's Gas Operations, having been employed with them for 23 years. He belonged to the Pettit-Kapplinger Post of the VFW in Clare. Gale attended the Brown Corners U.B. Church. Gale enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and , most of all, his family. Gale is survived by his wife, Julie; his daughters, Lori (Todd) Palmer of Harrison, Christina Shilling of Battle Creek, and Melissa Shilling (fiance' Dave Humbyrd) of Sterling Heights; his father Herbert (Agnes) Shilling of Inverness Florida; two sisters, Connie (Dick) Kleinhardt and Lina Gies; and one grandson, Nathan Palmer. Services will take place on Friday, February 16, at ll:00 am at the Brown Corners U.B. Church with Rev. Chuck Malson officiating. Burial will be in the Gilmore Twp. Cemetery in Farwell. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation or to the Labdrador Rescue. Arrnagements by the Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home, Inc. of Clare.
