Janet Kay Smith, 58, of Clare, passed away Monday, May 31, 1999 at her
home.  Janet was born April 23, 194l in Harrison the daughter of Ernest
and Carol (Richardson) McCartney.
     Mrs. Smith graduated from Harrsion High School in 1959.  Later she
married Harold Smith and moved to the Durand-Bancroft area.  Janet
worked at a variety of jobs, including factory, medical transcription
and nurses aide.  Mrs. Smith returned to Clare in 1989 where she
furthered her education by earning a one year certificate at Mid
Michigan Community College in 1990.
     Surviving Janet are one brother, Jerry McCartney of Leesburg,
Florida; two sisters Doris Radak of Clare, and Donna Russell of Durand,
Michigan, plus numerous loving nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in
death by her parents, one brother, Edward McCartney and one sister Jean
Schuyler.
     Funeral services were held Thursday, June 3, l999 at 3:00 pm. from
Stocking Funeral Home Inc., Harrison,  with Elder Dale Beavers
officiating.  Interment was in Maple Grove Cemetery, Harrison.  Memorial
contributions may be considered to the American Lung Association. 
Arrangements were entrusted with Stocking Funeral Home, Harrison.
