"Slick" Worrell, 64, of Harrison, passed away Monday, September 13, 1999 at Mid Michigan Regional Medical Center from complications from cancer. Ed was born April 23, 1935 in Ryan, Oklahoma to Lola (West) and Edward L. Worrell, Sr. Mr. Worrell moved in 1998 to Harrison from Dover, NJ where he had lived for 10 years. He was united in marriage to Marilyn (Deising) DeCloedt, of Manistee, MI on July 12, 1980 in Onekema, Michigan. Mr. Worrell was a Veteran of the United States Army, 82 Airborne Division, HHC, of the 505th Air Assault (Ranger) and fought in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant (T). He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the University of Texas. He was a member of the American Legion and the Moose in Harrison. In his lifetime Mr. Worrell wore many hats. During the 60s he worked in the communications center of NASA for the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo Missions, including the first manned mission to the moon. In the 70s and 80s he worked in the television news industry in San Francisco, CA, Corpus Christi, TX and San Diego, CA for UPI, NBC, and ABC. He received several Emmys. He retired in 1990. He loved hunting and fishing and was especially fond of animals. Surviving are his wife, Marilyn of Harrison, a son Edward Johnson Worrell of Port Jefferson, New York and his wife Amy, a step-daughter, Christilyn (Decloedt) Newton, of Villa Rica, Georgia and her husband David, Step-sons Clint and Lee Gage, and a step daughter Sarah (Gage) Popham and a half sister Edwina (Worrell) Blackburn, all residing in Texas. A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 17, 1999 at l:00 pm at the Stocking Funeral Home in Harrison. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Disabled American Veterans or to the Clare County Animal Shelter of Harrison in care of the funeral home.
