Curtis Passed Away Monday, Following Long Illness After more than a year of illness and intense suffering at times, Harvey D. Curtis passed awat at his home on Morton Street Monday night. Funeral services were held at the home Thursday at 2:00 o'clock, Rev. C.E. Bishop of the St. Johns Episcopal Church, officiating. Harvey Dwight Curtis was born in Columbia, Lorain County, Ohio, May 28, 1845. On April 15, 1866, he was united in marriage to Miss Malinda Micle, and to this union were born five children, only two of whom are now living, Harvey D. Curtis, a teacher in the public schools of Port Huron and William Earl, an employee of the electric and water plant of this city. They came to Clinton County, Michigan in 1869 and after living here for a few years moved to Gratiot County, where they lived until comming to St. Johns about six years ago. Besides his wife and two sons, he leaves to mourn thrir loss, an adopted daughter, Miss Bessie Curtis, of this city and one sister, Mrs. Huldah Allen of Detroit. Mr. Curtis was a member of the G.A.R., having enlisted as a private in the 9th. Independent Battery Volunteers, 1st. Artillary in 1862 at the age of 17 years. After serving three years he was honorably discharged at the close of the war. Up until his failing health prevented, he had been an active church worker for many years, always taking great interest in all the church doings. Internment was made in the St. Johns Cemetery.
