"Dick" Jacoby, 88, of The Pines, 200 Timberline Drive, Marietta, formerly of 609 Sixth St., Marietta, died at 7 p.m. Friday (Dec. 7, 2001) at Heartland of Marietta in Devola. He was born Aug. 30, 1913, in Willshire, Ohio, Van Wert County, to George W. and Bertha Lynch Jacoby. He was employed as a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service and was a member of Putnam Congregational Church in Devola. He grew up in Vincent and graduated from Ohio University, where he received a bachelor's degree in commerce. He served in the 20th Army Air Force, 58 Wing 468 Group 793 Squadron, during World War II. He was a life member and past commander of St. Johns, Michigan Commandery 24, where he lived for 29 years. He was a 50-year member of Harmar Lodge 390, Free and Accepted Masons; and a member of American Legion Post 64; Michigan Past Commanders' Association; American Union Chapter 1; Marietta Council 78; Elf Khurafeh Temple A.A.O.N.M.S., Saginaw, Mich.; Marietta Shrine Club; and Radiant Chapter 74, Order of Eastern Star. He was past president of the Marietta Junior Chamber of Commerce, past president of the Ohio Valley Management Club and past president of the Mid-Ohio Valley Traffic Club. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Esther Wilcox Jacoby of Marietta; one son, Dr. William D. Jacoby and his wife, Anne, of Marietta; two daughters, Carol Canavan and her husband, Milton Webster, of North Canton, and Ruth Barnes of Hacienda Heights, Calif.; grandchildren, Mike Jacoby and his wife, Amy, of Marietta, Beth Kelley and her husband, Mike, of Sterling, Va., Drew and Catherine Canavan of Canton, Harold and Laura Barnes of California, Debbie Hernandez and her husband, Jerry, of California, Mark Bouma, Frank Bouma and Shannon Dutton and her husband, Robert, of California; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Charles Jacoby; her parents; one sister, Alice Ogle; and three brothers, Edward, Paul and Miles Jacoby. Services are at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hadley Funeral Home, Reno Chapel, with Pastors David and Barbara Jackson officiating. Burial is in Barlow Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
