Stutson Suffered from Paralysis Many Months. Malcom Graham Stutson, a resident of St. Johns for forty-four years, died Friday after a long illness. Mr. Stutson was of Scottish descent and was born in Genesee county, New York, April 30, 1828. When a young man he moved with his parents to Hillsdale county, Michigan. He was a wagon maker by trade and was considered among the best of his time, when all wagons were made by hand. The Stutson wagon was given first premium at several fairs. On September 23, 1851, Mr. Stutson was married in Fenton township, Genesee county, Michigan, and his wife of nearly fifty-five years survives him and gave him tender care during his long and serious illness. He went to California in 1852, the journey taking more than nine months. He drove an ox team on his journey and repaired wagons on the way until he reached Salt Lake City, where he joined a party of immigrants. Mr. Stutson remained three years in California and returned by boat to New York City. Soon after his return Mr. and Mrs. Stutson removed to St. Johns and took up their residence at the corner of Prospect and Ionia streets, where they have since resided. Two years and five months ago Mr. Stutson suffered two strokes of paralysis and has been an invalid since that time. About a week before his death he was again stricken with paralysis which rendered him helpless. Mr. Stutson was the father of four children, Charles and Mrs. Timothy Longoor deceased, William, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; who was called home by his father's death, and Mrs. Miles Boardman, of St. Johns, who is spending the winter in Petoskey; and on account of illness was unable to be present at the funeral services. He also leaves eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The funeral services were held Monday at 10 o'clock at the residence, Rev. James B. Pinuckard of the Methodist Episcopal church officiating. Interment was in St. Johns cemetery."
