Thompkins was born in Newstead, Erie County, N.Y., January 17th, 1839. She was married to Samuel Tucker, also of New York, December 11th, 1859. Four sons were born to Mr. and Mrs. Tucker. She is survived by three. Her first born, Frank Tucker, passed away several years ago. The survivors are Cash of Partello, Earl and Fred of DeWitt, one granddaughter, Ethel Tucker of Partello. She also has two sisters living, Mrs. Augusta U. Blood of Potterville and Mrs. Sarah McMillan of Green, Kansas. Mr. Tucker passed away May 28th, 1912. Had Mrs. Tucker lived one week more she would have passed away on the second anniversary of Mr. Tucker's death. Mr. and Mrs. Tucker came from the state of New York to DeWitt, Mich in 1865. They purchased a farm then almost a wilderness, but by hard work and with the true spirit of the genuine pioneer they soon had a well cultivated farm and comfortable buildings. In 1905 they sold their farm and moved to Dewitt village where she has since resided. Mrs. Tucker was a very industrious person. Never content to sit with folded hands. She was a kind wife, mother, friend and neighbor loved and respected by all who knew her. None knew her but to love her, none named her but to praise. Her motto was "if you cannot speak good of a person speak not of them at all." There were but few persons that she saw no good in and she always had an excuse for all faults. She always spoke well of all and evil of none. She was a member of no church but her creed was to do by others as others should do by you. She will be greatly missed by all. Surely Aunt Eliza as she was familiarily called has made the world better and brighter by her having lived in it. Mrs. Tucker was a charter member of the O.E.S. and a member of the Clinton Co. Pioneer society. She has been failing in health for some time from a complication of diseases. She bore her sufferings with patience and expressed herself many times as being ready to go and anxious for the final summons to come rather than to stay and suffer so much. She quietly and peacefully passed away Thursday night, May 21, 1914. Her funeral was held at the M.E. church Sunday afternoon at 1 0'clock, Rev. G.T. Fisher officiating. Interment in Dewitt cemetery. The Order of the O.E.S. took charge of the burial services. The casket was covered and surrounded with beautiful flowers, showing the esteem in which she was held. Those from away who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Cash Tucker and daughter Ethel, Mr. Frank Hoag of Partello, Mr. and Mrs. J. Green and Mrs. Augusta U. Blood of Potterville and Miss Mable Mann of Lansing. She has gone to join the loved ones In that world that's free from pain Though we miss her, sadly miss her Yet our loss is her great gain. She has met a joyous welcome Crowns immortal on her brow, Yet we're weeping, sadly weeping, For we have no mother now. No more she'll watch us from the window, No more meet us at the door; But we always shall remember Smiles of welcome that she wore, And at parting from the loved ones Never more her tears shall fall, But our hearts will ever cherish, Though we have no mother now.
