December 11, 1859, he was married to Eliza Jane Thompson. In 1865 they came to DeWitt Township and bought a farm which was almost an entire wilderness, but by hard work and perseverance made it into a fine farm. Six years ago he sold his farm retired to rest from his labors. He bought a home in DeWitt village where he resided until his death which occurred early Tuesday morning, May 28th, 1912. He was a member of the Masonic lodge, a charter member of the O.E.S. and a member of the Clinton county pioneer society. He was a kind husband, father, friend and neighbor, loved and respected by all. Everyone had a good word for uncle Sam as he was called. He was the life of social gatherings wherever he went. He has been in poor health for several months from a complication of diseases. He is survived by his faithful wife who has kindly and patiently cared for him through his illness. Three sons, Cash of Partello, Earl of DeWitt village and Fred who bought the homestead, one granddaughter, beside a host of other friends. The funeral was held at his late home Thursday morning at 10 a.m. Interment in DeWitt cemetery. Rev. G.T. Fisher officiated at the church. The F. & A.M. took charge of the services at the cemetery.
