Vance Madison R. Vance, the notice of whose death appeared in last week’s issue, was born in Yates county in the state of New York on the 16th of April, 1822. His health has been gradually failing for a number of years past, the immediate cause of his death being a stroke of paralysis, which he suffered on Thursday preceding his demise. He was one of five brothers, who came here at an early date and settled on East Plains. Each of them had a robust constitution and each endured the hardships and privations due to pioneer life, but from force of character and through honest effort they were able to spend their declining years in comfort and to enjoy the respect and confidence of their fellowmen. The youngest brother, Chauncey Vance, and two sisters survive. He was married to Miss Mary Beckwith on the 13th of Nov. 1845. Three children were born from this union, two of whom, with the wife, besides ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren remain to mourn his loss. The funeral, which was held at the home on Friday, was attended by a large circle of relatives and friends, bearing witness to the tender regard and esteem in which deceased was held. The interment was in East Plains cemetery, the remains being bourne to their last resting place by six of his grandsons. _________________________________ Card of Thanks We desire to thank the friends and neighbors who assisted us in our recent bereavement, also for the beautiful floral offering and music.
