Additional Comments:
Alfred , De Witt was the 3rd child of Moses and Mary Francis Sherwood De Witt 
and was an older brother to my Great Grandfather, Moses O. De Witt.  He was 
born on 1 September 1826 in Salisbury, Herkimer County, New York. In about 
1852 Alfred married his first wife, Polina , Elwood.  This marriage produced 
two children.  Polina died in 1861 or 1862 in New York State where she was 
most likely buried.  In about 1863 Alfred married his second wife, Lydia Ann 
Williams.  Lydia was born 13 April 1836 also in New York to Dexter and Maria 
Williams.  It is not known as of this writing how many siblings she may have 
had.  The marriage between Alfred and Lydia most likely took place in New York 
State and produced twelve children, the first three of which were born in New 
York State.  Sometime between 1865 and 1867 Alfred and Lydia left New York and 
ended up in Michigan, Ingham County. Elmer French De Witt was their seventh 
child. It is not known if Elmer ever married, but the fact that he lived to be 
72 years of age and he is buried with his parents, it is assumed that he had 
no wife or children.
