McNaughton pioneer of the Soo. The son was born in Buffalo, N.Y. Oct 5, 1852 at age 13 went aboard a vessel as cook at Portage lake. His career includes, 1872 a cement expert in U.S. Govt, later engineer on the Locks, Muncie Ind. carried on dealer in furniture. 1888, returned to Sault de Ste. Marie and was appointed US Marshal Deputy Jan 1, 1985 was installed as Sheriff of Chippewa county. In Machinac, Mi in 1889, Mr McNaughton was united in marriage with Miss Agatha Biddle, of Machinac Island. Her father John Biddle was a prominent citizen of Mackinac county. John Biddle died March 3, 1886. The children of our subject and his wife are LeRoy, who was born Apr 4, 1880, and Otto Biddle, born March 10 1884.
