The first David was born in the state of Vermont as a Knickerbocker, but changed his name when he was adopted by a man named Baker. His father John Knickerbocker supposely drowned in the Hudson River leaving the boys to be adopted. David Montrosser Baker shows up as early as the 1850 census in Eaton County, MI. He was married October 24, 1849 to Marion Antinett Sanford of Benson, VT. David's brothers, Rueben & Simeon Knickerbocker, went by Baker for awhile and then changed back to Knickerbocker. They settled in Louisiana and New York. David M. and Marion Antinett Baker had four children born in Vermontville, MI. They owned 500 acres of land in Vermontville in 1850. Their son, Wilbur Henry Baker was born November 3, 1852 in Vermontville. He married Francis Alice Patterson September 25, 1873. Wilbur & Francis had six children all of Vermontville. David Wilbur Baker married Grace Rogers, Allie Francis Baker married Fern Beatrice Snoke, Marion Baker married Frank Beck, Willis Baker married Dona A. Baker,(her maiden name) Lena M. Baker married Oscar M. Kreighoff and Gladys Baker didn't marry. Wilbur Henry died July 16, 1904 and is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in Vermontville as is Francis Alice Baker (Hager). She died Aug. 11, 1937. David Wilbur & Grace Rogers Baker had six children, three of which are still living. (1999). Merton Dale (Died April 19, 1917), David Pearl Baker (Catherine P. Green), both deceased, Nina Marguerite Baker (Art Satterly) both deceased, Leo James Baker (Margaret L. Powers), Florence Marion Baker (James D. Ferguson, George Dean & George Kline) and Roger Vance Baker (Neva B. Lamie).
