Eldred State of Michigan County of Eaton On this Second day of March A.D. 1864, personally appeared before me the Clerk of the Circuit Court, within and for the County and State aforesaid, Susan E. Eldred, a resident of the township of Oneida, in the County of Eaton and State of Michigan, aged nineteen years, who, being first duly sworn according to law, doth, on her oath, make the following declaration, in order to obtain the benefit of the provision made by the Act of Congress, approved July 14, 1862: That she is a widow of Aden L. Eldred who was a private in Company G commanded by Captain John Tyler in the Seventeenth Regiment of Michigan Vol. Infantry in the war of 1861, who died at Knoxville Tennessee on or about the fifteenth day of October A.D. 1863, and the cause of his death was the inflamation of the lungs. She further declares she was married to the said Aden L. Eldred on the Sixth day of February in the year 1861 at Oneida, Eaton Co. by one Roswell R. Maxson a Justice of the Peace; that she believes there is a public record of her said marriage but no private record of the same, and that she had but one child by him at his death and that the name, age, and residence of her child under sixteen years of age, are as follows: Lunar Cormi Eldred, and was born on the fifth day of October A.D. 1862, and is one year of age and that she has but one child by her said husband. That her said husband, the aforesaid, died on the day above mentioned, and that she has remained a widow ever since that period, as will more fully appear by reference to the proof hereto annexed. That her post office address is Grand Ledge, Eaton County, Michigan. She also declares, that she has not in any manner been engaged in, or abetted, the rebellion in the United States. And she hereby constitutes and appoints Tracy & Green of Charlotte, Mich., her Attorney to prosecute the claim and procure a certificate, and to do all other acts necessary in the premises. Claimant's Signature Susan E. Eldred Also, personally appeared Nathaniel G. Eldred and Silas Mosher residents of the township of Oneida, Eaton County, persons whom I certify to be respectable and entitled to credit, and who, being by me duly sworn, say that they were present and saw Susan E. Eldred sign her name, or make her mark, to the foregoing Declaration and Power of Attorney; and they further swear that they have every reason to believe, from the appearance of the applicant and their acquaintance with her, that she is the identical person she represents herself to be, and that they have no interest in the prosecution of this claim. And they further state that they knew her and her said husband before he entered the said service, and know that they lived together as husband and wife, and were so reputed, and that she still remains a widow. That they are acquainted with the name and age of their said child and believe them to be as stated in said Declaration. That their knowledge of the above stated facts, and the identity of the claimant as the widow of the said deceased soldier is derived from the fact that they have been personally acquainted with Aden L. Eldred deceased and the applicant for at least eight years last past, and they further state that said Aden L. Eldred died as stated in said declaration. Witnesses signatures: Nathaniel G.
