Thursday, May 21, 1998 AARON JACKSON SPAGHETTI DINNER TO BENEFIT AARON JACKSON About 5 years ago Aaron Jackson lost most of the fingers and thumb on his right hand in an accident at a sawmill. He was 19 at the time. On March 13, 1998 he lost the first section of his left thumb in an accident with a table saw as he worked with an independent subcontractor. Doctors were unable to reattach that part of his thumb, but U. of M. was able to offer him a surgery that will extend the bone in his thumb to make it a usable, opposable digit. They also have suggested that they can do reconstructive surgery on his right hand to make it more usable as well. This was not offered or suggested at the time of the first accident. Aaron doesn't have insurance, though Medicaid is covering the reconstruction of his left thumb. He isn't covered by workman's compensation and the needs of this family are minimally met by public assistance. He and his wife Becky, have 2 children (Brittiny, 4, and Chad, 3) and live in Grand Ledge. To be able to travel back and forth to Ann Arbor, to comfortably support his family and to be able to have the surgery of his right hand, Aaron is in need of financial assistance. He will also need to go through some kind of rehab and vocational training. The Disciple Bible class of Woodland United Methodist Church is sponsoring a Spaghetti Dinner at the Woodland United Methodist Church at 206 N. Main, in Woodland. The dinner will be on Saturday, May 23, from 5-7 p.m. (It's Aaron's 24th birthday.) There will be a free will offering, with all donations going to Aaron and his family. Aaron attended the Lakewood School system and graduated from Lakewood Alternative Ed in 1993. He is the son of LuAnn (Eberly) and Harle Robinson of Sunfield, and Stanley and Inge Jackson of Kentucky (Stan, formerly of Clarksville). Aaron and Becky are also asking for prayer support as they are quitting smoking. Aaron's surgeon says he must quit smoking before he has the surgery to give his body the optimal healing capacity. Becky hopes that by quitting too, she can support Aaron while he quits. For questions or further information, call Harry and Elnora Wallin at 517-566-8452. JACKSON Don't grieve for me for now I'm free I'm following the path God laid for me. I took His hand when I heard Him call I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day, to laugh, to live, to work or play. Tasks left undone must stay that way I've found my peace at the close of day. If parting has left a void, then fill it with remembered joy. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss, ah yes, these things I too, will miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My life's been full, I've savored much, good friends, good times, a loved one's touch. Perhaps my time seemed all too brief, don't lengthen it now with undue grief. Life up your heart and share with me, God wanted me now, He set me free. Thanks to all who sent condolences via food, cards, telephone calls, hugs and visits-all was truly appreciated. Louise Jackson LeRoy and Norma Jackson and families.
