Ames was born in Jefferson County, New York, July 13th, 1823. Her education, which was above the average, was obtained in the common schools of that time. She was united in marriage to Zera Rawson September 23rd, 1840 and located at once in Pittsfield, Lorain County, Ohio, where they together converted a wilderness into a home. To their union was born nine children; B. Franklin, John W., Edmund W., Addie E., Bela W., Sarah A., Laura E., Fred E. and Henry H., all of whom survive. She was left a Widow Feb. 11, 1898 and since that time had made her home with her son Fred and family whose loyality, devotion and attention to her was most praiseworthy, never a request going unanswered nor a want unsupplied. This beautiful life ceased December 31st, 1915, after the age of 92 years, 5 months and 18 days had been attained. She leaves to treasure her inspiration and exceptional influence, nine children, twenty-six Grandchildren, forty Great Grandchildren, making a total of 79 living descendants. Her true character is best portrayed in the sterling qualities of the splendid homes made in this community by her several children and Grandchildren. The Funeral Services were conducted at her late home Tuesday, January 4th, where eight of her children, several Grandchildren and many sympathizing neighbors and friends paid their last respects and her remains were laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery. The floral pieces were beautiful and many and attest to the esteem in which she was held by those whose acquaintance she had made. dz
