BROWN Sidney H. Brown was born October 3rd, 1838, near Eckford, Calhoun County, Michigan, and died at his home in Sunfield, Michigan, October 14, 1914, aged 76 years, 11 days. Mr. Brown was the second son of Marenus and Mary Bently Brown and was one of nine children. His people came from York state in the early thirties, making the trip with a yoke of oxen from Syracuse, New York, to their new home in the wilderness near Eckford, Michigan. Mr Brown was united in marriage to Miss Margaret Granger on May 19, 1859, at Chesaning, Saginaw County, Michigan. She departed this life December 2, 1912. To Mr and Mrs Brown were born nine children, 6 living, three dying in infancy. The six now living are M. A. Brown, Mrs Edna Hunter, Charles A. Brown, Mrs Alice Hager, and Mrs Maggie VanBuren, all living near the old home farm. Last December he had a stroke of apoplexy, from which he never fully recovered. Another severe stroke followed which proved fatal. All was done that willing hands could do but of no avail. He was a member of the Old Hager U. B. church and was ready and wanted to join his wife and children who had gone before. He leaves to mourn their loss, two sisters; Mrs Effie Lownsbury and Mrs Fannie VanWoert both of Kalamazoo; six children mentioned; twelve grand children. He was one of the old pioneers of Eaton County, having moved on the farm where he died 47 years ago, October 16, 1864. Funeral services were held at the home Friday, October 16, conducted by Rev. Wynn. Burial at Sunfield cemetery.
