All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/mi/mifiles.htm ************************************************ Newspaper source unknown, Scrapbook 1928-1932, Vermontville Library, Vermontville Michigan WASHINGTON BARNUM Washington Barnum, only son of Lewis and Harriet Edgel Barnum, was born on the Barnum homestead at Shaytown, Eaton County, Michigan, June 5, 1849, and departed from this life at his home near Sunfield January 17, 1931, at the age of 81 years, 7 months and 12 days. He was united in marriage to Ann Eliza Bale of Vermontville, February 1, 1869 at Sunfield. They cleared the land and built a home near Shaytown where he resided until the death of his mother. He moved to his present home May 12, 1897 where he resided until his death excepting five years in Vermontville. Early in life he became a member of the church at Shaytown, and gave it his loyal support ever after. He leaves the aged wife, one sister, Mrs Nettie Bale of Shaytown, four foster sons, Wm. Of Vermontville, Bert of Monroe, Fay of Mulliken, Benjamin of Sunfield, one foster daughter, Mrs Ena Myers of Grand Rapids, eighteen grandchildren, also many other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held at the home Tuesday at 2:oo o'clock, Rev Thompson officiated. Burial in the Welsh cemetery.
