All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/mi/mifiles.htm ************************************************ Sunfield Sentinel Sunfield, Michigan February 1951 ARTHUR DOW PASSES AWAY A large number of friends and relatives were present at the funeral service held for Arthur DOW 70, who died last week. the service was held at the Ward funeral Home in Vermontville with burial in the Freemire cemetery near Sunfield. Mr Dow was a grandson of the veterans' supervisor, John Dow, who cleared and settled on the homestead, known today as Dow Corners, in 1837. Mr Dow was the son of John and Harriet Bishop Dow and had spent his lifetime in the Sunfield and Vermontville areas. He was married December 4, 1904, to Mabel Wright of Vermontville, who is surviving, they having spent the past 37 years on their farm in the Bismark district. Mr Dow died February 14. One son, Clair, preceded him in death in 1911 at the age of two. Surviving, besides his widow, are two daughters, Mrs Lucene Smith of Sunfield and Mrs Louise Shipman of Vermontville and three grandchildren. Rev. Marcus Tabor of Vermontville, officiated. Six nephews, Carl Dow, Kendall Dow, Richard Wright, Durwood Dow, Claud Van Blarcom, and Elwyn Dow were bearers. dz
