Mr. Dancer was born at Undila, Livingston County, this state on August 13, 1842, where he lived until six years of age when he moved to Jackson County with his parents, living at Waterloo. When nineteen years of age he enlisted in the 1st Michigan Regiment, serving therein two years when he was discharged for disability. He was married to Julia Fitch at Pittsburgh, Ingham County, February 22, 1868. After marriage they lived for a time in Jackson County when they moved to Nashville in 1874, where for a number of years they run the Nashville House. Selling this they spent a year at Hastings and four years at McBride. They sold out the hotel at this place and purchased a farm near Lansing where they lived until October 1885, when they came to Vermontville and took the Loomis hotel, which they conducted for seven years. They then sold out and moved to Lansing where they resided until about seven years ago when they moved back here where they have since lived. Up to within a few weeks, Mr. Dancer has been in pretty good health but five weeks ago he was obliged to give up and go to bed and steadily grew worse until his health, which occurred Thursday. The funeral was held Saturday morning at the family residence, Rev. Haynes officiating, the G. A. R. post of which he was a member attending in a body and acting as pallbearers and escort to their dead comrades. Mr. Dancer is survived by his wife and only daughter, Mrs. E. D. Barber. Those present from away to attend the funeral were his sister, Mrs Leighton of Fennville, Mrs. McIllwain of Hastings, and Nelson Drake of Charlotte. CARD OF THANKS We wish to extend our sincere thanks to the many friends who, by their kind words and deeds assisted in the last sickness and burial of our husband and father. Mrs. Francis Dancer and Mrs E. D. Barber.
