Hammond, 78, of Woodard Lake, of rural Fenwick, died early Friday morning at Ionia County Memorial Hospital. She was born at Gladstone, Mich. July 13, 1902 the daughter of Charles and Lillian Valentine Brown. At age 16, she moved to Detroit and made her home there for 40 years. She had worked many years as a clerk in a retail dress shop in Detroit. In 1958 she moved with her husband, John Maloney, to Lake Odessa. He died in 1972. She then married Floyd Hammond Sr. at the Shiloh Community Church on March 1, 1975. They made their home on Powell Highway, rural Ionia until moving to Woodard Lake in the fall of 1980. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Ionia, the Lake Odessa Eastern Star and the Ionic White Shrine No. 41. Arrangements by Leddick Funeral Home, Ionia. Graveside services will be Monday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. at the Oakwood Cemetery in Grand Ledge.
